about
Had a dream, more of a nightmare, about seeing a beautiful 1974 Chevrolet pickup slide into a ditch.
Decided I'd write a little tune about it.
lyrics
I was driving down Wolf Grove Road
Not too late at night, four feet of snow
Coastin' behind, a ‘74 Chevrolet
It was painted orange, impeccable
I ain’t seen nothin like it before
Then before my eyes, she was headed right for the ditch
I pulled over, weren’t a soul in sight
Hopped down the bank, to my surprise
Just an old man there, “buddy, you alright?”
He said well son,
I’m tired of living in this world
Could you do me a favour, fill my glass with ice
If ya listen, I’ll give ya some advice
If you’re drinkin and drivin best be drivin to another life.
I shook his hand, he blew his nose, we shared a laugh, some stories were told
Within the hour, he was gettin a tow.
I got in my car, started drivin away, ya I’d never forget the words he said, if I hadn’t been drunk - it would’ve been poetic
So I was light on the pedal, I took er slow, just around the bend, and then I’d be home, so when I woke up in jail, wasn’t much a surprise
